Hey Hikers! I’m excited to tell you that we’ve recently rolled out a variety of new action types within Hike. These new actions are slightly more technical than usual, and so I wanted to give you a quick breakdown in this email (doesn’t make much sense to record a video this month!). Over the upcoming weeks you’ll start seeing the following action types appear in your monthly SEO action list:

Images 🖼️

Images can often be the cause of speed and crawling issues. We’re rolling out two new actions based around images on your website and their impact on your SEO:

  • Images that are too largeany images that could be optimized further for quicker loading speeds
  • Broken imagesany images that aren’t loading correctly

Page Size + Headings 📏

To ensure your pages aren’t too big, and that you’re reducing duplicate content, we’re rolling out these two actions:

  • Page size is too largeany pages that–when you combine the size of all the page elements (eg images, JS, CSS, HTML, etc)–are very large and likely slow-loading
  • Duplicate H2 headings on same pageany pages that contain identical H2 headings more than once

CSS and JS Files 📁

CSS and JS (Javascript) files are incredibly important in ensuring that a page loads and all it’s content is indexable. That’s why we’re rolling out these two action types:

  • CSS/JS files that are brokenbroken files will prevent Google from indexing all the page’s content
  • CSS/JS files that are too largefiles that are too large will often be slow-loading

HTTPS/HTTP Issues 🔐

Is your website hosted on HTTPS? You may still have files that trying to load over HTTP and possibly causing security issues. These three new actions will help to identify this:

  • HTTPS page links to HTTP CSS filelinks to CSS files on the page that load over an insecure HTTP connection
  • HTTPS page links to HTTP JS filelinks to JS files on the page that load over an insecure HTTP connection
  • HTTPS page links to HTTP image filelinks to images on the page that load over an insecure HTTP connection

Coming Soon 👀

I wanted to give you a quick update on the upcoming new features, and how they’re progressing:

  • Report builderthis one’s going well. We’re now testing this internally and feeding back for refinements and bug fixes
  • Payment platform for resellersbefore we could really test this, we needed to build a whole new email sending system. That’s now ready for testing internally, and the devs will move back onto the Stripe integration soon
  • Moving the SEO report tool into Hikethis one’s close to launch, so keep an eye out over the next few weeks!

That’s it for this month, please give us a shout if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Andy, Hike Co-founder
